Marco Polo is known today as a famous Italian explorer. He is also famous for working for the very powerful Mongol Empire ruler, Kublai Khan. Marco was Kublai's regional embassador which means that he could represent Kublai in all lands. Kublai gave Marco a passport to let him go in and out of territories freely. Kublai presented Marco with a tablet, made out of solid gold, for doing such an incredible job traveling, exploring, and finding out new news for him. Marco and Kubali developed an amazing friendship, and Marco always came to visit after he left in 1291. Marco Polo's longest and most known trip is when he went from the Middle East all the way to Central Asia. The trip lasted twenty four years to finally complete it and was 24,000 kilometers. Soon after Marco returned from his journey he was captured during a sea battle between Venice and Genoa. Marco was put in prison and met a man named, Rustichello, and together wrote a very interesting book called, The Description of the World. Marco's adventures will never be forgotten because they are recorded in his great book. Marco Polo traveled on the Silk Road.
